Semiphemeral Privacy Information
This service avoids collecting more information than necessary
- It doesn't use any analytics service or trackers
- It doesn't log IP addresses (except for error logs, but mostly because it's hard to configure nginx to
not log IPs in error logs)
- It stores a copy of the text of your your tweets when you download them in order to make them easier to
search, but once a tweet is deleted, the text of that tweet is deleted as well
- It does not store copies of your direct messages
- If you delete your Semiphemeral account, all information related to your account is deleted as well
- It automatically keeps 7 days of database backups (in case something breaks and I need to restore from
backup), so data isn't fully deleted for a week — and additionally, I reserve the right to make
occasional database backups and keep them for a limited time if there's a good technical reason
to do so
This service avoids loading third-party resources
- When you're viewing your tweets, your browser loads a javascript file from twitter.com, and tweets are
embedded
from Twitter's service, but each embedded tweet requests
that Twitter not use data from the embed "for
purposes that include personalized suggestions and personalized ads"
- Your browser loads a javascript file from stripe.com, and if you
choose to send a tip because you <3 this service so much, all payment processing is handled by Stripe
- That's it, all other resources are loaded directly from semiphemeral.com
Semiphemeral is hosted on DigitalOcean
- Therefore, DigitalOcean (a cloud hosting provider in the US) has the technical ability to access all of
the data that the Semiphemeral service itself can access
